Images can add that extra bit of colour and interest to a website, so long as they're used cleverly. Avoiding going overboard with images and only putting quality graphics on your web pages which compliment your site's design and colour-scheme, will enhance the look of your site; providing that they are properly optimised.
Optimising Images
Optimising images for the web to the uninitiated can be a tricky business. You have to get the right balance between file size and picture quality. It is an essential step though. Look at any webpage, and you will see that most of its load time comes from images. Your website will be needlessly slow to download if you don't reduce the sizes of these images. Minimalism
Something that many people forget is that the best way to optimise your images is to not use them at all. Cutting out needless graphics is the easiest way to optimise your pages. So, you should always be looking for ways to lessen your graphics-usage, and to get more out of every one that you simply must use.
The old saying , "a picture says a thousand words" is particularly true for the tourism industry. If for example, you were looking for a B&B or Hotel accommodation, given a choice of two you would probably choose the accommodation with good clear photographs tastefully shot, in preference to one with no pictures. But, if the pictures were poor quality badly composed you might well be put off enough to take a chance on the accommodation that has no photographs.
